SHOW NOTES

NEWS AND TECHNOLOGY

Microsoft Dynamics 365 to start rolling out November 1 – Microsoft Dynamics 365 to start rolling out November 1 | ZDNet

  • Business Essentials – which ERP? How much starting price – $40 PUPM for ERP only, $50 PUPM for both CRM and ERP
  • Enterprise – which ERP? How much starting price – $115 PUPM for CRM only, $190 PUPM for ERP only, $210 PUPM for both
  • Dynamics CRM – The product name is going away and being replace by role-based modules that have specific functionality – Sales, Field Service, Marketing, etc.

Sage CRM Cloud – No more sales to new customers as of 10/1/2016

Salesforce M&A Memo Leak – A leaked PDF from a hack of Colin Powell’s email (he sits on the board of Salesforce) discloses a number of potential acquisitions as well as companies considered interlopers.

What’s interesting is:

  • The only ERP on the list is Netsuite
  • Use of Glassdoor to rate both CEO and percent who’d recommend working at the companies
  • Potential M&A targets with over 90% on-prem revenues are highlighted (less desirable?)
  • Presumably those given code names (burgundy (LinkedIn), Sonoma (ServiceNow), Tuscany (Tableau) ) were in more serious consideration
  • Companies listed were public, generally under a billion dollars in revenues.

GLASSDOOR COMPARATIVES

  • Sage: 36% recommend , 43% CEO Approval
  • Intuit: 79% recommend, 94% CEO Approval
  • Acumatica: 88% recommend, 99% CEO Approval
  • Xero: 89% recommend, 96% CEO Approval
  • Epicor: 60% recommend, 59% CEO Approval
  • SAP: 87% recommend, 96% CEO Approval

Facebook’s Workplace Collaboration App for Companies Is Here

Facebook’s Workplace collaboration app for companies is here.

The service is priced at $3 per user per month for the first 1,000 users; it goes down to $2 for the next group size of up to 10,000 users and lowers to $1 for more than 10,000 users. It’s free for nonprofits and educational institutions; you can also try a 3-month trial with your organization at no charge.

With that, Facebook is poised to take on collaboration apps like Slack (free – $12.50 per user per month), Microsoft’s Yammer (bundled with Office 365) and Atlassian’s HipChat (free – $2 per user month). It has advantages like the ability to support with large enterprises and an interface that’s already familiar to most people with a mobile device (which means little to no time spent training employees to use it).
However, it’s yet to integrate with or offer things like CRM and project management tools. It’ll be interesting to see how Facebook approaches this aspect of Workplace, and if it can indeed convince companies around the world to use a social network for increased productivity.

Microsoft reports earnings October 20, 2016 – Tech titan Microsoft ( MSFT ) will report its fiscal first quarter numbers on October 20. The company will report its quarterly results after the market close, with the consensus calling for earnings of $0.68 per share. During the same period last year the company earned $0.57 per share, and the stock is up a modest 3.9% on the year.

AWS and VMWARE – AWS to provide infrastructure for managed VMware environments that are fully compatible with enterprise installations of its virtualization software suite.

For customers, the new service is like using hosted Exchange or Oracle except that the service provides core virtualized infrastructure, not a single application.

Customers will have dedicated VMware environments that can include its full suite of products. Like other managed services, the provider, VMware in this case, handles most of the mundane, but important tasks like patching, server provisioning, hardware monitoring and break/fix.

Since the service runs native vCenter software, customers can use vMotion to live migrate VMs, application bundles or their entire VMware infrastructure to the cloud. However, once there, another form of migration is also facilitated by running within the friendly confines of AWS.

You’ll also be able to take advantage of AWS migration tools such as AWS Database Migration Service, AWS Import/Export Snowball, and AWS Storage Gateway. AWS-VMware hybrid – a convenient on-ramp to native cloud for many enterprises – diginomica

TOPIC OF THE DAY

Death of The Sales Funnel (Nucleus Researchhttps://goo.gl/afxPuM )

“Since the early 1900s, most sales efforts have been driven by the concept of a sales funnel – bring in enough prospects at the top, qualify and engage them in the middle, and ultimately some fraction of them will buy your product. The concept has guided sales meetings for decades – but it’s on its way out. The traditional sales funnel assumed two things: information asymmetry and a (relatively) consistent sales cycle. With prospects for all types of products doing extensive research before they ever reach a sales rep, asymmetry has all but disappeared. A number of factors are making sales cycles more inconsistent, including the low cost of capital (for some), the rise of the subscription economy, and the omnichannel experience. This means that sales must rethink the pipeline, look at multiple touchpoints and bring data in from both internal touchpoints and third-party sources to give them a much more sophisticated view of propensity to buy than the number of days in the pipeline.”
